5 fun ways to celebrate National Families Week

Get ready to ignite the spirit of family fun because from May 13th to 19th, Australia is celebrating National Families Week, and My Creative Box is here to make it unforgettable!

Families are the heartbeat of our community, providing support, love, and endless motivation. Here at My Creative Box, family is our driving force – and we're not kidding! Leanne, our founder, is a mum of three, and felt compelled to inspire fellow parents to nurture their children's development while crafting cherished memories together. With the unwavering support of her husband and kids, My Creative Box was born, expanding her family to include you – our Creative Box Family!

In today's fast-paced world, finding quality time to spend with family can be challenging. However, engaging in activities together not only strengthens family bonds but also plays a crucial role in a child's growth and development. These shared experiences create lasting memories. This National Families Week, we have come up with 5 activities that you could do at home to not only boost little ones learning and development, but for quality time with your family this week:

1. Scavenger Hunt

Get ready for an adventure, rain or shine! Scavenger hunts are the ultimate family fun activity that can be tailored to each child's interests and development. But here's the best part – they're not just fun; they're secretly supercharged skill-builders! From boosting observational skills to fostering teamwork and problem-solving. Watch as they sharpen their language, communication, and social-emotional skills without even realising it! Let the hunt begin!

2. Dive into creativity!

Artistic expression is a powerful tool for children to communicate thoughts, emotions, and ideas. Engaging in arts and crafts activities as a family encourages creativity, language skills, and fine motor skills development plus so much more! From painting and drawing to sculpting and collage-making, there are endless possibilities for creative exploration. Parents can provide guidance and encouragement while allowing children the freedom to experiment and express themselves. Displaying their artwork proudly at home boosts self-esteem and reinforces a sense of accomplishment.

3. Game Bonanza

Games are a classic way for families to come together for fun and laughter. Whether it's board games, card games, or outdoor sports, playing together strengthens family relationships and teaches valuable lessons such as sportsmanship, strategy, and cooperation. Games also provide opportunities for children to practise critical thinking skills, decision-making, and social interaction. With a wide variety of games available for different ages and interests, there's something for everyone to enjoy during family game nights. One of our favourite’s are chalk games such as hopscotch and mazes, as it lets creativity run wild as well as the game.

4. Bake and Bond

Whip up a delicious cake together – educational and scrumptious! Involving children in the kitchen not only teaches essential life skills but also promotes healthy eating habits and encourages family bonding. Cooking and baking together provide opportunities for children to learn about nutrition, measurement, and following instructions. From simple recipes like homemade pizza to baking projects, the kitchen becomes a place for learning, creativity, and shared experiences.

5. Bedtime Stories

Share quiet moments and bedtime snuggles with a heartwarming story. Fostering a love of reading from an early age sets the foundation for lifelong learning and academic success. Reading together as a family not only improves literacy skills but also stimulates imagination, vocabulary, and comprehension. Have a cozy night in, and let your little ones storytelling skills and imagination run wild.
